Current Students and Graduates

In keeping with the principles listed on the opening page of this website, we are building an international community that is undertaking an important investigation into how beauty can restore people, places, the earth, and the quality of lives.

The principles have been with us since the beginning of this endeavour and consciously guide the creation of this program. The strength of this community and the impact of the contribution it can make, depends on the mix and interweaving of people from different countries, cultures, backgrounds, educational experiences, passions, hopes and dreams. So, it is important that we get to know each other as each person works through the process of coming to a decision to formally apply for the program.

Experiencing what this community is, will inform the decision of each prospective student. As people get in touch with us to explore the program and how it can help them meet their personal and professional goals, we invite them to engage with each other and us. From each conversation, we learn more about how to develop the program in ways that support each prospective student.

On this page, you are briefly introduced to our community of students, present and past.

CLASS OF 2024-2025

Let us create places

with wonder, reverence, and play that we may live in wonder, reverence, and play. Let our work honor our more-than-human surroundings and our ancestors, both hidden and revealed.

Zachary, from the United States

I am eager to learn more

about Christopher Alexander's methods and teachings in a community of people who, like myself, have also felt the need to stop and consider his work.

Lauren, from the United States

In 2013 I began to arrive

at a realization—place and commitment to place could be the final frontier for Africa's transformation. But it would take a certain language to build the continent's communities into places that advance human flourishing. That search for a shared language led me to Building Beauty.

JD, from Nigeria

Beauty in a space

is generated by small acts of unfolding, and doing this in community can be a sacred practice. Looking forward to unfolding beautiful spaces that support healing, creativity and vitality for those that inhabit them.

Heather, from the United States

Alexander’s work

shows us the way home.

Sam Leahy, from the United Kingdom

It’s the perfect time

in my life to explore the principles of The Nature of Order deeply. I find myself connecting to a piece of land that has been in my family for generations, and I believe that there is somewhere between the work I have been exploring in recent years and this piece of land, and what can happen there that the Building Beauty course will allow me to understand, formulate and inhabit.

Terry, from Ireland

I seek to be transformed

and I hope to begin to play a part in creating beauty where God shines through.

Fernando, from Mexico and the UK

I’ve long understood

something to be off kilter with how we're living our lives in modern society, but haven't been able to articulate the heart of it. The closest I've come is Christopher Alexander's works, and I'm thrilled to be able to study them closely with a group of like minded folks!

Catherine, from the United States

I want to become myself

by working to reveal Truth, Love, and Beauty. I believe Building Beauty is a path to do this.

Matthew, from the United States

I experience a strong connection

and allegiance to the underlying message I find in all of Alexander’s work. His vision to restore the world and his mission to make others understand it is something that I find truly courageous and inspiring. I believe his work is an example from which we can all learn - and can build upon in our own ways. I am grateful to be a part of BB and I’m eager to learn more.

Mick, from the Netherlands

With my passion

for the built environment fueling my journey, I'm eager to collaborate and learn to craft spaces that resonate with thoughtfulness and beauty.

CLASS OF 2022-2023

for a human being? What should it feel like? What should it do? In such a place, who would we become? I can think of nothing more important, or more interesting, than creating vibrant spaces that enchant and connect us.

Building Beauty is about more than designing pretty places.

For me it is about reintegrating our buffered selves and fractured communities through the brilliant, uniting power of beauty.

Zachary, from Australia

Building beauty, recognizing beauty,

and walking in beauty with friends! Music to my ears! Through design, I would love to deepen my understanding of wholeness, harmony, and reciprocity with other humans and non-humans, and with the living and non-living elements that make a whole together.

Maryam, from the United Kingdom

To hone my sense

of beauty and deep time. To learn, in community, slower and more sustainable ways of building and making. To create spaces—both real and in my writing—that spark the soul.

Jack, from the United States

Christopher Alexander had so many great ideas,

but I have never had enough people around for discussing and learning about them. So excited after finding this community and for an opportunity to start putting these ideas into practice.

but also living in alignment with surroundings. I want to learn how to be in alignment with all physical existence and spaces in a way that is beautiful and coherent, to heal, grow and serve myself and others, through this stepping stone of the Building Beauty course.

the physical and digital environments we inhabit to feel more natural, more beautiful, more humane?
